Carl Barat's New Band Name In Dispute
Carl Barat may be forced to change the name of his new band after it was revealed that there is already a band in the UK playing under the moniker of Dirty Pretty Things.
The Salisbury four piece have being playing as Dirty Pretty Things since January and they are determined to keep the name.
Barat announced details of his bands name, which include former Cooper Temple Clause man Didz Hammond, last week having named them after his well known London club night.
The original Dirty Pretty Things claim they have already copyrighted the name in the UK so legal negotiations will probably ensue with Barat’s label Vertigo.
Vertigo’s legal department said last week they have notified Barat and his manager and they will be deciding their next move shortly.

Exclusive - Carl Barat on his new band - Ex-Libertine speaks his mind
Carl Barat has showcased his new songs for the first time on a secret tour of Europe - and spoken exclusively about his new band.
Barat unveiled Dirty Pretty Things at a secret headline show last Tuesday (October 18) in Paris - the same city The Libertines played their farewell show at the end of 2004.
Dirty Pretty Things, who had already played a small number of unannounced shows in Italy, performed seven brand new songs and tracks from the Libertines back catalogue. The Triptyque club where the gig was held was hosting a club night by Poptones boss Alan McGee.
The set opened with an acoustic performance from Carl, where he whipped the 650 capacity crowd into a frenzy with Libertines hits 'Can't Stand Me Now', 'Time For Heroes' and 'France'.
Then the full band played for another 40 minutes. The new songs sounded like early Libertines material, combining urgent, noisy punk guitars with reggae influences similar to The Clash.
Speaking backstage after the show, Carl said that after a difficult year his new band feels like "four guys against the world again", and the tour has given him the chance to bond with the rest of the group.
He said: "I've taken a year to sweep up the pieces, focusing, and remembering who I was and why I did what I did rather than tying up the loose ends of the Libertines, which has really taken up a lot of time and emotional space."
Bassist Didz Hammond, who joined two months ago after leaving previous band The Cooper Temple Clause, sang backing vocals, and on one song performed the lead.

Ok this is a review to someone who went to italy too see dirty pretty things. use this thread yoo post anything about dirty pretty things
Hi I am in some dingy internet place in a Bologna backstreet, just thought I would say hello.
Apologies in advance I am no music journalist so let me manage your expectations now! I also apologise if I am adding to the number of threads, but I am a bit sleepy and disorientated!
I have not had a chance to read all the threads but I can only add to the news from Rome. The first night was absolutely awesome. I was with JoP and Lucy very near the stage, we had no idea what to expect but Carlos and the boys gave it everything and a bit more. The style was very rock and punky, quite exciting and aggressive in places, but always very tight and melodic. If you remember Carlos at his best, when he was really giving it some with the Libertines, then it is like that, only better!
Gone is the static and rather sad Carl, this guy is energetic and full of it, and so are the other lads, you cannot help but feel excited. They really rock..... This really is British rock to be proud of.
The new songs are worth the wait, of course they need more listening to but immediately I find "Bang Bang" and "The Enemy" are going to be big songs, and "You love it" is fantastic with Carl and the lads really aggressive and exciting.
(Sorry I am gushing a bit, forgive me I have slept about two hours each night so make less sense than usual)
As others have said the band is very very tight, they are totally professional and you would never believe this was a first gig. Didz belongs like he was always there, he and Stantony quite energic beside Carlos and his amazing stage presence, Fook me that lad has come a long way (sorry shut me up somebody).
News from Padova
The club in Padova was tiny, more like the church hall for your aunty Pats silver wedding party, but the advantage was it was like having Dirty Pretty Things play in your living room, that was the best night ever for me.
There was no stage, just a corner of the hall.
I managed to blag my way into the sound check, they took pity on the slightly batty English fan and let me in. I was expecting Gary and the guitar techs to be setting up, but then in came Carl, Didz and Anthony and when they were set up, they played "Bang Bang" and I felt very privileged to be there all on my ownsome up front by the band (about six feet away, eye to eye, that was a grand experience).
Then I got interviewed by the Italian press, they were excited that English fans were coming over to see this band.
So onto the gig, they played the same setlist, they were just as tight and professional as the first night, the only difference being that this venue was so small and informal that they seemed a little more relaxed. They must have been relieved that the first night went so well, because they really seemed to be enjoying themselves in Padova. Carl was on great form joking and chatting to us at the front, and he was absolutely bang full of confidence.
Faultless performance, the Libs songs all delivered brilliantly(Plan A was excellent both nights) and hearing the new songs again there was a chance to catch more of it. There is a real spunky bitterness about You Love It / Bang Bang, it is pretty exhilarating to watch the way its performed. And I agree with Carl I think The Enemy is going to be great as well, if I recall rightly this is where he is saying the enemy was inside his head, I cant wait to know the words properly but I am starting to be able to sing along. Didz was really getting into the game, he was very energetic and both he and Anthony were interacting really well with Carl. I am telling you this is a great band to watch as well as to listen to, they are hugely energetic and charismatic, I am so delighted they have come out reborn like this. Gary was having a brilliant time the way Gary does.
On both nights Carl said a special hello to the fans over from the UK and I think he appreciated us being there.
The only downside was the difficulty in taking pics, I was only a few feet from Didz and Carl, but the fans were going mental behind me and the security could only just keep control, I could barely keep my balance and every shot had a security guys elbow in it. Also the lighting was pretty crap with loads of smoke about, at one point Carl or Didz would appear out of the murk and frighten the life out me!
Frink warning, dont read this bit if you hate OMGCarl stuff:
After the gig Carl stayed in the hall and of course he got mobbed. He was friendly and funny as ever, pouting for the cameras, signing stuff and kissing (girls and boys, though I noticed one pretty girl got 5 kisses, hes no fool is he?) Girls were actually fighting over the setlists, and boys were grabbing cig butts, cups, anything. I settled for Carl instead (you will be surprised at this). When the fans really crowded him the security guys got around him but I was somehow in there with him too. I owe a debt of gratitude to the two security guys who forced me up against Carlos with my face in his hot, sweaty back. Honestly I dont know how my hands ended up on his @rs£, it seemed to be an invisible force or the voices in my head, not my fault!). Sorry Carlos (well a bit sorry, but not much!)
Well Im here in Bologna for the third night....... now I know what to expect it makes it all the more exciting. I am telling you if you get a chance to see them, do it. You wont regret a moment of it. I am so very proud of them, so very happy for them all, and so glad for Carl who has been through rough times, he is proving himself and last. Well done my lad.
